Jonny Buckland

The lead guitarist and the co-founder of “Coldplay” Jonathan Mark Buckland, was born on 11 September, 1977. He is well-known as Jonny Buckland. Jonny was born in London, England and later changed his city to Pantymwyn, North Wales. He currently lives in London with his wife – Chloe Lee Evans, whom he married in 2009. They together have a daughter - Violet and a son- Jonah.

He went to Alun School in Welsh town, Mold and then was a student of mathematics and astronomy at the University College London. He met his ‘Coldplay’ bandmates in London. Buckland is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. He loves his team to the extent that, in 2008 he said that he would give up the band to play football for his favorite team. He was a vegetarian till the time he had to stay in Japan and was unable to communicate that he does not eat meat.

He started playing guitar at the age of 11. Jonny received encouragement to enter into the music world by his My Blood Valentine Fan, Brother Tim. To technically describe his style- He uses the Telecaster thin line 72’ as his primary electric guitar and Fender Stratocaster as his secondary guitar. Apart from playing guitar, he has also made a guest appearance on Ian McCulloch's album. He also appeared in the movie Shaun of the Dead with his band mate Chris Martin.

In a period of 10 years, Coldplay has received 25 Grammy Award nominations and 7 Grammy Awards, all thanks to Jonny Buckland.

Jonny Buckland and the lead vocalist of Coldplay Chris Martin have known each other since college. They were also both a part of a band called Pectoralz which was later on called Starfish and finally after all the members were final – it was called Coldplay.

During concerts, Chris often call Buckland “Jonny boy” particularly when Jonny is about to do a solo. Their affection is evident as Chris went on to say that there would be no “Coldplay” without Jonny Buckland.
