Thandiwe Newton

Thandiwe Newton is an English actress who was born on November 6, 1972. She has acted in a number of films in both the United Kingdom and the United States ewton is the daughter of Nyasha Newton, a Zimbabwean nurse, and Nick Newton, a Cornish scientist and artist. She was born in London. "Thandiwe" means "beloved" in Swahili. She was born in London and raised in Penzance where she attended Downing College, Cambridge, to study social anthropology. Newton began her acting career in the film Flirting (1991). In Interview With The Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, she played Brad Pitt's maid Yvette (1994). She also starred in Crash and The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004. Newton won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in 2006 for her role in Crash. On July 7, 2007, Newton served as an introducer for the UK leg of Live Earth at Wembley Stadium.

She was supposed to present Al Gore to the audience, but he was late, so Newton had to entertain the crowd with jokes. In 1998, Newton married Ol Parker, an English writer, director, and producer. Ripley, born in 2000, and Nico, born in 2004, are the couple's two daughters. Her two daughters are named after the Alien figure Ellen Ripley and the musician Nico. Newton described his visit to poverty-stricken Mali in 2008 as a "humbling experience." She paid a visit to Nampasso, a community in the country's Ségou Region. After demonstrators pelted her BMW X5 with eggs at the gates of her daughters' school, Newton traded it in for a Toyota Prius.
