He lived in Los Altos. His father’s name was Lawrence Chu. He was a big chef. Jon's parents own a restaurant named Chef Chu's, in Los Altos. He completed his 12th board from the Pinewood School. He has attended the University of Southern California School. He pursued cinema classes in the university. He has received awards in his college by the Anti-Defamation League. Some of the awards are the Dore Schary Award, and Princess Grace Award. He has respected the West Program project.

Jon has currently focused on the online show, The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. In an interview, he was asked a question about why all of his films have dance in it. He replied that he does not know the reason. He thinks that it is normal and obvious to keep two to three dances in the show, as dancers encouraged him the most. He says the dance artists are just awesome. Each day he meets a new dancer and learns a new thing from them. They make him more creative and innovative.

Coming to his lists of production and direction, in 2001, he wrote, produced, and designed a short cinema titled as Silent Bits. Then, in 2002, again, he wrote and directed, When the Kids Are Away.
