Rita Moreno’s original name is Rosa Dolores Alverio, and she was born on December 11, 1931, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She is best known as Anita in West Side Story.  In 1961, she earned herself an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, making her the first-ever Latina on-screen character to win the honor.Â
Moreno started her profession on Broadway at a very early age; She showed up on Broadway and in her first film while she was young, and left school around the same time. Initially, Moreno acted in minimal roles.Â
Moreno is best known for her work in the movie West Side Story (1961), where she was at her fiery best. Her dancing was also appreciated in this work. A flexible entertainer, she needed to sing, move and handle exceptionally sensational scenes in the movie.

She stayed there for six seasons and got to be known for her trademark catchphrase: "Hey, you folks." She garnered a Grammy award for her contribution to the show.Â
Later, Moreno won a Tony Award (best-highlighted performer in play) for her work in Broadway's The Ritz (1975). Honors didn't stop there for Moreno. She went ahead to win two Emmy awards for guest appearances on The Muppet Show (1977) and The Rockford Files (1978). She is one of just 11 individuals to have received the four noteworthy honors—Emmy, Tony, Oscar and Grammy honors (otherwise called the EGOT).Â
Moreno acted as a straightforward nun on the digital TV arrangement Oz from 1997 to 2003. Today, she is active in feature films, make a special appearance on small screen, and acting and singing in theatrical ventures.Â
Moreno wedded Dr. Leonard Gordon in 1965. Â Her spouse breathed his last in 2010 at 90 years.Â
