Madeleine Stowe is an American film and television actress. She was born on august 18, 1958 at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Mireya and Robert Stowe. Initially, Madeleine wanted to become a concert pianist so she took piano lessons at the age of 10 and 18. She explains that playing the piano is a way to run off from socializing with other kids of her age. Sergei Tarnowsky, her music teacher believes in her and teach her until his deathbed. When he died at 92, Madeleine decided to quit on playing piano stating that, it was time to not to be by herself anymore. She went on her first date at 18.
In her early years, she studied at the University of Southern California and took up cinema and journalism. But since she is not really interested in her classes, she joined the Solaris voluntarily where an agent spotted her in a play. She was offered various television and film appearances. In 1978, she was debuted in an episode of the detective series, Baretta on ABC. Afterwards, she did several television work and guestings on Little House on the Prairie, The Amazing Spider-Man and Barnaby Jones. In 1978, Madeleine was starred in the television film, The Nativity and essayed the role of Mary. She played as Ruth Lasker in the crime drama miniseries, The Gangster Chronicles on NBC and later, she was featured in various films like the Amazons in 1984 and Blood & Orchids in 1986.
In 1987, she acted in her very first major role in the box-office comedy film, Stakeout and played as Maria McGuire with her co-starrer,
Emilio Estevez
and Richard Dreyfuss. She donned the role of Veronica Briskow opposite with Taylor Worth (played by Mark Harmon) in the 1989 film, Worth Winning and later played as Miryea Mendez in the romantic thriller film, Revenge in 1990. In the same year, she bagged the role of Lillioan Bodine in the mystery film, The Two Jakes together with
Jack Nicholson
. In 1991, the actress played the lead role in the independent film, Closet Land. Madeleine portrays the role of Karen Carr, opposite with Michael Carr (played by
Kurt Russell
) in the thriller film, Unlawful Entry. Shortly after, she has done the role of Cora Munro in the historical epic film, The Last of the Mohicans.
Her performance was critically acclaimed and the film grossed over $75-Million worldwide, which also boosted her career as an actress. The following year, she was cast as Sherri Shepard, the wife of a unfaithful police officer in the drama film, Short Cuts in 1993. Her performance was acclaimed and received positive reviews. Madeleine got the Best Supporting Actress at the National Society of Film Critics Award, Golden Globe and the Best Ensemble Cast at the Volpi Cup for her outstanding performance in the film. Later, she appeared in a cameo appearance in Another Stakeout, the sequel of the film, Stakeout. Then, she played as a blind musician in the neo-noir thriller film, Blink in 1994. She played as Rachel Munro in China Moon and bagged the lead role as Cody Zamora in the Western film, Bad Girls. . She was ranked as one of the ’50 Most Beautiful People in the World’ by the People’s Magazine in 1994 and was selected as a part of the ‘100 Sexiest Stars in Film History’ by the Empire in 1995.
Madeleine got married to Brian Benben in 1982 while filming The Gangster Chronicles. She gave birth to May Theodora in year 1996 so she has to stopped on acting for a while, to concentrate on being a mother. In 1998, she made her comeback through the drama film, The Prostitution and the comedy-drama film, Playing by Heart. She subsequently did the box-office mystery film, The General’s Daughter along with
John Travolta
. In 2001, Madeleine acted in the science fiction film, Impostor which is based on Philip K. Dick’s short story of the same title. She played as Julia Moore in the war film, We Were Soldiers in 2002 and the comedy film, Avenging Angelo along with
Sylvester Stallone
. She was starred as Senga Wilson in the 2003 thriller film, Octane.
Madeleine left the show business in year 2003 and lives in Texas with her husband and daughter. She came back through the drama television film, Saving Milly in 2005. She was later starred in Southern Comfort by Fox and inn 2007, she made a recurring role as Dr. Samantha Kohl in the crime drama series, Raines on NBC. She was starred as Patricia Addison in another television film, The Christmas Hope in 2009. She played as the glamorous and powerful Victoria Grayson in the primetime television series, Revenge, where she received nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Drama at the Golden Globe Award.
