Debicki did her education from Huntingtower School in East Melbourne where she got two perfect study scores in Drama and English. She was the school’s dux when she graduated in 2007. In this movie, she attempted to re-invent the image of a spy girl in a thriller drama series. In The Great Gatsby(2013), she plays the role of the golfer Jordan Baker and does full justice to the character. She claims that the audition for this movie was only the third in her career. Then came along Guy Ritchie’s directed film The Man From U.N.C.L.E.(2015) where she is enacting the character of Victoria, a self-made woman, a villainess who is a Nazism-agenda supporter. Debicki has also done some excellent theatre. She played Madame in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of The Maids, where she got to act alongside Cate Blanchett and Isabelle Huppert. She claims to have learnt a lot from observing these two women. For her performance, she won the Best Newcomer Award at the Sydney Theatre Awards. Debicki also appeared in short films like Godel and Incomplete. She plays the lead in the TV series The Kettering Incident. Debicki has modelled for Vogue Australia in 2011 and may other brands as well. She says that advice she follows which Blanchett gave her was “wash your socks”. Debicki is a beautiful woman with a statuesque height (6’2”) and seductive eyes. But she claims not to like labels in general. Her intelligent talk and brilliant performance on screen reflect her deep knowledge of the art that is acting. Her years in theatre moulded her to be an actress who does justice to her characters. In 2009, she received a Richard Pratt Bursary for her outstanding acting skills. In all her movies, she has played roles of women who do not fit the stereotype. There is always something different about the women she has played. She is fond of playing roles of modern women who are not damsels in distress. When asked if she would like to be a Bond girl sometime in the future, she says that spy girls are stereotyped as being just the arm candy of the lead or dumb beauties, and she would not like to play such a role. She has been quite lucky in the movies that she has bagged, working with few of the top directors and actors of Hollywood and fortunate in the kind of roles she was offered. She will soon appear in the Marvel movie – Guardian of the Galaxy. An article quotes her as saying that the jump from Australian theatre to Hollywood had been extremely fast, quite unexpected and very unusual. She is also a fun person who enjoys going to comic cons and also learnt to drive on the sets of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. She says that her height was always an issue while growing up. As a teenager, she would try to fit in and end up slouching a lot. Now she is more accepting of herself, and this worked in her favour all along the way. She is extremely popular among the younger generation on account of her good looks, confidence, and nature of work. But she still claims that despite her famed career, she does not get recognized much in public.
