Patrick Magee

Patrick Magee was born on 31st March 1922 in Country Armagh, Northern Ireland. He was an Irish director and actor by profession. Magee studied at St. Patrick’s Grammar School in his hometown. Magee started off his career with stage appearances, and he initially worked with a touring company which was working on Shakespeare plays. Seeing his performance, Tyrone Guthrie brought him to London to portray roles in some Irish plays. In 1957, he met Beckett and she was immediately impressed by Magee’s voice and wrote a play Krapp’s Last Tap especially for him. Later, he appeared in a television series in 1972. In 1958, he tied the knot with Belle Sherry, who hailed from the same country as Magee and early in 1961; his wife gave birth to twins in London.

Magee received a Tony Award for his performance in Peter Weiss’s Marat/Sade. As a director, his best collaborations were with Harold Pinter Harold Pinter was a British playwright, screenwrit >> Read More... and Samuel Beckett. After this, he started his movie career and his initial film roles include The Servant, Joseph Losey’s The Criminal, The Birthday Party and Anzio. He received most praises for his work in A Clockwork Orange. Magee’s most number of appearance was in horror movies which include Die, Monster, Die!, The Masque of Red Death, Tales from the Crypt, And Now the Screaming Starts, Demons of the Mind and Tales from the Crypt. At the age of 60, this legend breathed his last on 14 August 1982. According to his obituaries in the newspaper the New York Times and the Glasgow Herald, the reason of his death was due to natural causes.
