Jason Robards was an American actor on television. He was a stage performer. He was born on 26 July 1922 in Chicago. Robards appeared on the stage and many films like The Gamblers. Jason saw the end of his fathers’ acting career. His elder brother was flourishing during that time by doing silent films. However, the arrival of sound films on the Hollywood industry was unfavourable for his career.
Jason excelled in athletics. At Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, he ran 4:18-mile. He received calls from reputed universities due to his braveness in sports. Then, he joined the US Navy after his graduation in 1940. He served as a radioman aboard a cruiser named the USS Northampton in the Navy in 1941. On 7 December 1941, he boarded in the Pacific Ocean about 100 miles. Later, it had directed In the World War II’s Pacific theatre. He performed in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
In 1942, the Northampton sunk by attacks from two Japanese detonators in the Battle of Tassafaronga. Later, an American destroyer saved him. Due to Jason’s courageous service, the Northampton received six battle stars. In 1944, he was a radioman on the USS Nashville. It was the flagship for the entrance of Mindoro in the northern Philippines. It hit one of the five-inch gun ports. Due to 223 catastrophes, the Nashville moved to return to Pearl Harbor. They instructed to go to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Washington. Despite, Jason’s bold service in the war, he could not receive bravery award of the U.S. Navy Cross.
After the war, Robards started his acting career. He shifted to New York and performed small roles in radio and on stage. He starred in Jose Quintero film. He then portrayed himself as the sales clerk Hickey in The Iceman Cometh. O’Neill directed it. He won an Obie Award for his act. For another Broadway restoral, he played the character of Hickey.
Then, he played the role of Jamie Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey into Night. Quintero directed it. It won Tony Awards and Pulitzer Prize. He acted as a lead role of James Tyrone. His other films were A Touch of the Poet, Hughie and A Moon for the Misbegotten.
He performed on stage for Arvin Brown’s Wilderness and as well as for Arthur Miller’s After the Fall and Lillian Hellman’s Toys in the Attic.
In 1975, he acted in a comedy Follow That Music. Then, he got an invitation to perform in The Journey. He presented himself on television series, Appointment with Adventure. In 1991, he portrayed himself as US president in The Perfect Tribute. He gave his voice for two documentaries’. He acted in many films.
Coming to his awards, he won the Best Performance for the play The Disenchanted in the Tony Award. He performed the single act with his father. He received awards for Best Supporting Actor in the Academy Award.Coming to his personal life, he had six children. He married four times. He died on 26 December 2000 due to lung cancer.
