Gregor Fisher

Gregor Fisher is an actor and a comedian, born in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire on 22nd December 1953. He grew up in Edinburgh, Langholm and Neilston following the death of his mother. He went to Barrhead High School, and he also attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. Gregor started working with Scottish comedians hence giving his career a kick-start.

He worked with Late comedian Rikki Fulton on his hit sketch series Scotch and Wry, which was aired only on BBC one Scotland. Another comedian he worked with was Hector Nicol in the BBC drama Just a Boy’s Game. He was later seen in movies, starting with Michael Radford’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, where he played the role of Winston Smith’s neighbour.

In 1988, he starred in Silent Mouse, a television documentary that describes the creation of the Christmas carol ‘ Silent Night Click to look into! >> Read More... ’. He later did a cameo in the Michael Caine One of the few-selected “Knighted” actors and one >> Read More... vehicle, Without a Clue. He then appeared in a sitcom Rab C. Nesbitt, where he played the Character of Rab C. Nesbitt, the role he is most famous for followed by The Baldy Man. In 1944-45 he heads the cast in the BBC series The Tales of Para Handy where he again worked with Rikki Fulton.

In 1999, he did a sitcom Brotherly Love followed by the 2002 sitcom, Snoddy. He later played a role in BBC’s theatre version of Kidnapped with Lain Glenn. Fisher appeared in the 2000 BBC version of Gormenghast. He also starred in the drama, Missing in 2006. In November 2006, Chitty Chatty Bang Bang had Fisher as Grandpa Potts.

Recently he was seen as Mr Bumble in BBC’s adaptation Oliver twist. Other films that he did includes the romantic comedy, Love Actually and Michael Radford’s The Merchant of Venice. He married an actress Vicki Burton. The couple has three children, Alexander, Jamie and Cissie. Fisher has been a great actor and a comedian perhaps known as Rab C. Nesbitt for his portrayal of the character.
