Plot
“Whiskey Galore” is a British remake of the older Ealing Comedy of 1949, with the same name. Whiskey Galore is during World War 2 on an island in a place called Todday. In the film, a group of Scottish people who live on the isolated island are suffering from a shortage of whiskey as their supply runs out due to rationing. Once it gets dark, these desperate islanders steal cases of whiskey from a stranded cargo ship carrying cases of whiskey. They are more concerned about the whiskey than the war ahead and the threat the Germans pose, because whiskey is one thing that will help them cope during such hard times. Some romantic relationships emerge during these challenging times.
Star Performance
Eddie Izzard acts incredibly well as Captain Wagget.
Gregor Fisher also gives a brilliant performance.
Analysis
Although this film is supposed to be a comedy, it is not as funny as it should be. Nothing in the movie manages to touch the hearts of audiences to keep them emotionally engaged. Although the film has some hilarious aspects, the comedy is lacking. The film also has an upbeat tone. There are a lot of kissing scenes, and the film openly showcases scenes of death, love and sex. There is a lot of change in this remake, compared to the original version, as here, many parts of the storyline have been changed. However, it is disappointing that they did not use Scottish music for this film.
