George Robert Lazenby is an Australian born actor and model, who is considered one of Hollywood’s legendary figures. He is most popularly known for playing the suave British Secret Service Agent, James Bond in the 1969 movie, ‘Her Majesty’s Secret Service.’
George Lazenby’s name brings to mind a charming, dangerously edged persona cut out in a dashing black and white suit. While his greatest success was as 007, his career is lined with scores of other movies and brand endorsements. He was born in Goulburn, New South Wales, where he spent most of his formative years. He joined the Australian army, after which he was engaged in a series of jobs as a car salesman and mechanic. In 1963, he moved to London in pursuit of a girl he had fallen for. After his major fame in Her Majesty’s Secret Service, he passed up future Bond movies and moved back to Australia. He subsequently took on modeling opportunities and worked in film and television in Australia, Italy and Hong Kong. Some of his movies from this period are ‘The Man from Hong Kong (1975),’ ‘A Queen's Ransom (1976),’ and ‘Saint Jack (1979).’ He returned to Hollywood and acted in many television series. The biographic documentary ‘Becoming Bond’ from Hulu revolves around George narrating the events surrounding his rise to fame and the trials that followed it. Much of his life after his success was fraught with mental despair, but he overcame it with continued dedication to his field. He has made a strong impact on popular culture, and future shows have recounted his iconic performance on numerous platforms
