Bibhu Mohapatra is a fashion-cum-costume-designer of America having Indian origins.
He was born on the 7th of June, 1972, in the state of Odisha, India. He currently stays in NYC and is married to Bobby Beard. His fashion is quite popular all over the world. He primarily makes luxury clothing for women. He is also engaged in making high- end fashion and fur garments. He has sold clothes under this label in Frankfurt, and New York in America, where he lives, as well as in Mumbai and New Delhi, cities of his country of origin. Apart from these two nations, his work is well-known in Beijing, China, too. Bergdorf Goodman is a well-known luxury departmental Mart in New York where his fashions get sold. In other parts of the United States of America, clothes under the Bibhu Mohapatra label are sold by Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and also SAKS Fifth Avenue, which is one of America’s oldest departmental stores. In China, retail company Lane Crawford keeps the Bibhu Mohapatra label.
He designed professional costumes for Aida’s debut in New York. ‘Aida’ is an opera with its playwright being Guiseppe Verdi from Italy. His brand is known to be familiar with all prominent women of USA. Even Michelle Obama, the wife of the current President of the United States, Barack Obama, is known to have bought from him. Very recently, in 2016 itself, he designed diamond jewelry for Forevermark, which is titled ‘Artemis’. Going beyond earning profits, he donated to the society by creating handmade silk garments to benefit the local craftsmen of Odisha, his birth state. National Arts Club awarded him with the Young Innovator’s Award for his exquisite work in May 2010. In 2010, he was honoured with a membership in the Council of Fashion Designers of America. It is a not-for-profit organization created to raise the influence of American designers in the economy of the world. In 2013, his designs were displayed at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) of the Atlanta state of America. In 2013, his talent also brought him to the final level of receiving the International Woolmark Prize.
