Brendan McCarthy is an Irish, who has worked as a screenwriter and film producer. He is settled down in Ireland. He is the owner of Fantastic Films a Production House along with John McDonnell. His work at the production company includes developing the international and oversees finance and distribution of the company. He even looks after all the co-productions activities which happen in the house. Brendan did his graduation from EAVE, Media Film School, and later he did further studies in Scale Strategic Marketing.
Initially, he owned his production house Blue Light Productions. He was also with Media Desk Ireland as their Board Member. In 2006, he even did M.A in Screenwriting from the Institute of Art, Design, and Technology after which he wrote the screenplay for Wake Wood, which was produced by his production house Fantastic Films in collaboration with Hammer Films. The movie was published by MPI Media Group. Brendan has been a Film Adviser to the Arts Council, which is in Ireland.
He used to advise the company on the matters which were a project as well policy related matters. From the time frame of 2001 to 2012 he has been a part of many movies as the Irish representative to the Eurimages which is a council in Europe which funds the work of co-production team, exhibition, distribution, and others. Brendan was an active member in the formulation of policy, rules, project selection within that frame of time. From the time frame of 2001 to 2005, he was made the Head of the Irish Film Board, for the development and production.
He used to be contributory to create new production finance actions, which included the Micro-Budget Digital Fund and the Low Budget Initiative Fund. He was also associated with the selection of projects for both production and development. His recent movies include The Last Days On Mars, which was the first movie of director Ruairà Robinson, which was chosen at Cannes Film Festival, 2013 for the category of Directors' Fortnight. He was even part of the movie ‘Stitches’, which was directed by Conor McMahon. The movie also featured Tommy Knight and Ross Noble.
