On September 23, 1987, Emmett Skilton was born. Emmett Couling Skilton is another name for him. He is an actor and filmmaker from New Zealand. Emmett starred as Axl Johnson in the comedy-drama The Almighty Johnsons. He most recently appeared in Avatar 2 and the American comedy series Young Rock, where he played Dwayne Johnson's real-life college football coach, Ed Orgeron. Emmett was born in the city of Wellington, New Zealand. He went to Titahi Bay North School, Titahi Bay Intermediate, and Mana College, all in Titahi Bay. During high school, Emmett appeared in his first public theatre plays with Wellington's Capital E's improvisation company, Joe Improv. Danny Mulheron, a New Zealand director, watched Emmett perform and invited him to apply for the role of Willem in Seven Periods with Mr. Gormsby. The following year, he toured New Zealand and Sydney with The Ugly Shakespeare Company before enrolling at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in 2007.
Emmett featured in the feature film "Home by Christmas," based on Gaylene Preston's family during WWII while studying at Toi Whakaari. He earned a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Acting at the end of 2009 and began appearing as Axl Johnson in The Almighty Johnsons in 2010. Emmett portrayed real-life characters Sam Giancana in the 2016 US series The Making of the Mob: Chicago and Victor Lownes in the 2017 American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story. He then appeared in James Cameron's Avatar 2, The Sounds, a New Zealand and Canadian co-production, and Amazon Prime's American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story. Emmett created and directed the comedic online series Auckward Love from 2015 to 2017, which follows a young, heartbroken girl in Auckland, New Zealand, on her quest to find love again with the help of her not-so-useful closest pals. He also directed the award-winning comedy series Millennial Jenny, which premiered exclusively on Instagram TV in 2019. Legends, an Australian series co-directed by Emmett, was launched in 2019.
He is a screen tutor at The Actors Program and directed their graduation films, Ripple and 13 Suspects, in 2017 and 2018, the latter scripted by The Almighty Johnsons co-creator Rachel Lang. Emmett has recently directed over 70 episodes of Shortland Street for TVNZ. He has won several accolades, including Best Acting Ensemble, Alumni Award, Best Director of a Series, Best Director of an International Web-series, and a nomination for 'Rising Star' Award.
