Tulsi Lahiri was a renowned Indian actor, director, and play writer who mainly worked in Bengali theatre and cinema. He was born on 7 April 1897 in a Zamindar family in Naldanga village of Rangpur district, Bangladesh, British India. He completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor in Law and started his career as a lawyer in Rangpur court. Tulsi Lahiri later went to Alipore, Kolkata, where he met Ustad Jamiruddin Khan, who recorded two of his songs and inspired him to join His Master's Voice, a British record label company created in 1901, as a music director. He agreed with Ustad Jamiruddin Khan and started a new career in Bengali cinema and theatre. He started working on stage and films as an actor, vocalist, and instrumentalist.
