1. Sabyasachi

"Sabyasachi" (1977); a Bengali movie directed by Piyush Bose, was inspired by the novel written by Saratchandra Chattopadhyay. Uttam Kumar played Sabyasachi who was a nationalist leader, and fought against the British for colonial rule. He outsmarted the British with his intelligence and skills in disguising, earning their fear and respect. The movie showed love for the nation and sacrifices of freedom fighters. The main lead was Sabyasachi Chakraborty as Aurobindo, showing his journey from being an educated civil servant by British system to freedom fighter for independence of India. "Subhash Chandra"(1966); a Bengali film based on life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, directed by Piyush Bose. He was a legendary freedom fighter. The lead cast of the movie was Amar Dutta playing the role of Subhas Chandra Bose. The movie showcased his journey, education and political entry. The film mainly presented his contribution in the Indian independence movement, portraying his difference of opinions with Mahatma Gandhi, and his building of INA, Indian National Army to fight for freedom. 5. Anandamath

"Anandamath" (1951), a Bengali movie, based on Anandamath written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, directed by Satish Dasgupta. The movie was about the time in the 18th century during the Sanyasi rebellion against the British East India Company. The story presented a Sanyasi group (Hindi monks) who fought for freedom, with Mahatma Bhavananda as their leader. 9. Bhagini Nivedita

"Bhagini Nivedita" (1962), a Bengali biographical movie of Sister Nivedita, was directed by Bijoy Bose. She was a social worker from Ireland and follower of Swami Vivekananda. The film showed her dedication towards India's freedom fight so that she quit her job of British school teacher to become an Indian nationalist. Arundhati Devi played the role of Nivedita. Nivedita did an incredible work for women empowerment, education and support for fight of India for independence. 10. Egaro

"Egaro (2011), a Bengali movie was directed by Arun Roy. The movie was about the match of IFL shield final in 1911. Mohan Bagan’s team won the match against British. It showed theme of revolution going on underground after the Partition of Bengal in 1905. This win against British imperial rule created a milestone in India's freedom struggle. The movie showed that the match meant more than just a football match win. Their win against the British was a contribution to the movement of independence.
