Amar Choudhury was born in 1897 in Calcutta, West Bengal. He was an Actor, Producer, Editor, and Writer. He is best known for his performances in Keranir Mas Kabar (1931), Jamai Shashthi (1931), and Matri Sneha (1923).
Amar scripted and directed what is known as the first Bengali talkie ‘Jamai Shashthi’ in 1931, and was produced by Madan Theatre Limited. Amar has acted in all the films directed and scripted by him. Jamai Shashthi was released in 1931, the same year as India's first talkie, Alam Ara was released. Some of his most notable feature films are Tritiya Paksha, Chirokumari, Kolonko Bhanjan, Shatyapathey, and Sarkari Jamaal. He died on 30th August 1948.
