Plot
Krishna (Suriya) comes to Mumbai in search of his missing brother, learns that he was a dreadful gangster named Raju Bhai (Suriya). After this, a twist unfolds when Krishna meets his brother’s enemies.
Star Performance
This film is an atrocity to the senses. Suriya is shown as this larger than life hero but the dialogues, writing doesn't help him in any way. The double role is just painful to sit through. The film is more of a fan service than a genuine story. The rest of the actors are also just trying. The Hindi actors' dubbing is so atrociously done, even an outstanding actor like Manoj Bajpai looks cartoonish. Samantha has nothing substantial to do in the film. She’s just the love interest.
Analysis
There is nothing wrong with making a cliched film. But when you don’t even try to make it good, you’ll get a product like Anjaan. The film is painful to sit through. Suriya as Raju Bhai is beating people left right center. But does portray the demeanor of a Mumbai Don well. On the Other hand, the portrayal of Krishna is dull. The action sequences are stretched to an impossible level. The music and cinematography is good. An actor like Manoj Bajpayee looking like a cartoon in this film is a huge disappointment. One of the biggest questions regarding this film is its certificate. The film is violent and provocative and has many inappropriate scenes despite this the film has been given a U certificate. There is no coherent storyline at one point they try to build up tension and the next moment there is a dance number. Even in cliched gangster films there is something to look after the backstory of the leader, action sequences, dialogues. But in this film, there is nothing to look after. A simple story is stretched to 3 hours because of unnecessary sequences. Anjaan is a film for fan service only, though it isn’t good.
