Plot
Following multiple terror attacks on India, the Central Government approves of a temporary task force, that targets every element conspiring against India. When one operative goes rogue, and taunts about multiple attacks on the country, Ajay Singh Rajput, a fellow operative, convinces his boss Feroze to do the unthinkable: neutralize the most notorious terror operatives in his go. Will Ajay and his team succeed against the rising odds?
Star Performances
With one bold film after another, writer cum director Neeraj Pandey only goes on to prove why he is a force to reckon with. While most directors prefer a safe approach, he has gone on full offensive with his crusade against terror.
Akshay Kumar is the biggest surprise of this film. Well-known as a commercial actor, Akshay gives a restrained, yet effective performance as Ajay. Rana Daggubati, Anupam Kher, and Danny Denzongpa lend solid support. Even Kay Kay Menon and Taapsee Pannu do justice to their respective roles.
Analysis
An Indian spy film that means business? This is still a dream for many. However, with Neeraj Pandey, it seems that things might change for the better. ‘Baby’ is probably one of the rarest projects in Indian cinema that pays an honest tribute to the undercover intelligence operatives of our country, without going too overboard.
Nowhere do you feel bored in this film, despite the run time being almost 2 hours and 40 minutes long. The action is slick. The narrative keeps you on the edge of your seat. Above all, the acting performances are both realistic and appealing to the commercial audience.
Some may complain of the film being overtly nationalistic. However, ‘Baby’ presents nationalism as the way it is: straightforward and no-holds-barred. In fact, through a dialogue, Neeraj Pandey goes a step ahead and explains how it is more glorious to serve your nation until the last breath.
The acting performances are simply fantastic. Akshay Kumar surprises the audience with his resolute performance of Ajay. As antagonists, Kay Kay Menon as Bilal Khan Bio coming soon... >> Read More... and Rasheed Naz as Maulana Mohammad Rehman are equally menacing. Anupam Kher has a comic undertone to his otherwise serious role, but he delivers it with absolute conviction. Rana Daggubati and Taapsee Pannu have done justice to their roles. Oh yes, Danny Denzongpa has done a phenomenal job as the no-nonsense intelligence chief.

Verdict
‘Baby’ is the one espionage drama most Indians have been waiting for years. It is a no-nonsense, realistic take on the efforts of our men undercover. The acting performances are like the cherry on the icing. You just cannot miss this film at any cost!
