CAST & CREW
Well, so the heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is back in the ultimate role of a Casanova romancing three heroines on screen. The plot of the film is an amalgamation of previous YRF films while proficiently incorporating a complete sequence from the previous hit ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge’ which is twisted in a modern fashion.
Plot Raj played by Ranbir Kapoor is not the boy next door he seems to like. He believes in the ideology of having fun. He is a girl magnet and in the course of eventually finding his soul mate; he breaks many hearts. His escapades begin on a trip to Switzerland with his boy gang, where he first pursues the cute and bubbly Punjabi Kuddi Mahi (Minnisha Lamba). For Mahi, his name Raj is enough as it perfectly falls in her dream of living the classic scene from DDLJ in which Simran misses her train. Well, she is happier about being left behind with a stranger in an unknown place just because it happened to Simran also in DDLJ and just like her she has also met a boy called Raj. But this fairytale romance leaves her shattered and heartbroken when she learns of Raj’s true intentions. In any case, Raj moves ahead with his life till he is besotted by his hot neighbor, Radhika, who aspires to be an actress. Being the player that he is, he is obviously commitment phobic too and, therefore, runs away from Radhika also when she asks for marriage. The film then focuses on how he meets Gayatri ( Deepika Padukone) a headstrong woman amidst his one of his flings. She is a part-time cab driver, a sales employee as well as a student who has a very clear aim in life and knows what she wants. As time passes, they both fall in love. However, Karma gets back at him by this time she is not ready for marriage. The heartbreak leaves him distressed, and so he sets out to apologize to the girls whose hearts he had broken.
1. The star cast is a delight to watch together on screen, but Ranbir’s chemistry with Deepika outdoes the rest.
2. Ranbir Kapoor is a brilliant actor and portrays all characteristics of his character perfectly. 3. Bipasha Basu looks stunning and does justice to her transition from Radhika to Shreya. She makes you crave her more and more with the oomph she displays on the screen. 4. Minisha Lamba stands out as the lively Punjabi girl and looks fresh. 5. Deepika Padukone looks charming in her small role.
1. The music of the film has a lingering effect with hits like ‘Khuda Jaane’, ‘Lucky Boy’ and the title track, ‘ Bachna Ae Haseeno’ which is a modern remix of the old song of the same name.
2. Yashraj is known for shooting in magical and picturesque locations, which are beautifully brought out in this film and are a treat for the eyes.
What’s not there? 1. The only drawback of the film was the lack of continuity in the second half of the film, as it is not well crafted and rushed through the scenes. 2. Deepika has the meatiest role, and her skills are not explored to the full potential.
Verdict: A one-time watch movie to experience a bit of all emotion and relive the DDLJ experience with a modern twist.
