The past seven days were the worst phase of life in the lives of Chennaites. The rains have completely devastated the normal lives of the Chennaites; it is said that this rain is the worst ever to hit Chennai. For the past seven days, some activities in Chennai came to a halt and certain instances like power shutdown and plying from one place to another with the same comfort as that of normal life were challenged. To add up to the agony, the power grids were closed. But what is of more concern is that several people were stranded, and water entered not only houses but also MNCs and hospitals.
Now only life in the city is getting back to normalcy. Here then we should mention the commendable gestures done by various celebs, at this hour of need. Actor Siddharth’s house too was immersed in water; he didn’t just stop with expressing his condition but went an extra mile by using the social networking for the right cause. Right from December 1st, he sent a string of tweets, emphasizing the need to help the stranded Chennaites. He helped the affected to shift to safe areas. And by doing so he became a real hero. Siddharth and R J Balaji were instrumental in forming teams and helped the stranded people. A hashtag, ChennaiMicro was formed by them on Twitter to update the rescue works. Vishnu Vishal and Udhayanidhi Stalin also involved themselves in the team and did their best.
Khushboo Sundar has done her best by providing relief materials to the needy, and she had stated on her Twitter Account that she had provided relief to many people till now. Her daughter was also involved in helping the needy.
Actor Dhanush did his bit; he and his team provided important amenities like clothes, food, and blankets to the people in the affected areas. Dhanush also donated Rs. 5 lakhs to the rain-affected victims.
Sivakumar and his family did their bit through the CM Relief Fund by giving Rs. 25 lakhs. As for Superstar Rajinikanth he provided Rs. 10 lakh and so was actor Vishal. The marriage hall of Rajinikanth was opened for the stranded people. Even Shobha marriage Hall of Vijay was opened for this noble gesture. The food was cooked in these halls. As per updates Vijay had announced Rs.. 5 crores towards the Chennai Flood Relief Fund.
Ajith Kumar had contributed 60 lakhs rupees and over 3500-bed sheets. Raghavendra Lawrence did his bit by providing one crore. If reports are to be believed
Kamal Haasan had donated a Rs. 5 crores to the relief fund.Anirudh and Vijayakanth also contributed a decent sum to the relief. Shalini Ajith was active in social networking and stated that they would be able to provide food to over 400 individuals. And this they indeed did. Singer Chinmayi also involved herself in providing food, blankets and medicines. Actor Sathyaraj did his bit by providing Rs. 25 lakhs to the rain-affected victims.
RJ Ramesh performed a non-stop live-in show to provide instant updates on the level of water in Chennai. Kanika was also thoughtful enough in providing relief aids to the affected areas. A R Rahman, Madhavan, Trisha, Shruti Haasan, Taapsee Pannu and Amy Jackson also did their bit by praying for the affected people in Chennai through social media. Madhavan even tweeted to make known the condition of Chennaites. This was for motivating rescue teams to do the needful in time. Hansika and Trisha Krishnan tweeted necessary information including helpline numbers to the common man. Jayam Ravi also did his bit in helping the needy. Hansika Motwani showed her generous side by donating Rs. 15 lakhs for the affected victims. It is also heard that Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Nasser, Kajal Aggarwal and Sivakarthikeyan did their bit to the needy. Vishal and Karthi even went to the extent of postponing their shootings and providing relief materials to the needy. They both are concentrating on providing relief to Cuddalore area too. Isaignani Ilayaraaja also did his bit by providing food that is freshly prepared, to the needy.
Kollywood comedians were no less when it came to helping the needy. Comedians including Mayilsamy and Imaan did their bit by providing food to the needy. They helped these people by providing the necessities like water, food and bedsheets. Mayilsamy used a boat to go to the flooded areas and provided food to the victims. Imaan visited the houses of these people and offered food to them. Santhanam did his bit by contributing the necessary amenities to the needy.
Actors and actresses are actively involved in social networking too for this cause. Vishal and Karthi formed a group named Rescue Chennai Group on Whatsapp. Several cine artists are associated with this group. Milk powder, clothes, food and bedsheets were distributed to the needy through this group. Also, the Kollywood actors and actresses visited the places that are facing the ire of nature.
As far as Mollywood is concerned, they sent two trucks that had the relief materials. Anbodu Kochi was the name of this project. Actor Prithviraj was the man behind this initiative.
Rima Kallingal and Parvathi Menon also got themselves involved in this campaign. Mammootty was generous enough in arranging over 20 shelter places for the victims of the rain. Mohanlal, Dulquer Salman, Jayaram,
Suresh Krishna, Renjith,
Aashiq Abu and
Manju Warrier also did their bit by either providing basic amenities or donating the amount for relief.
Tollywood left no stone unturned; to help their neighbor city; Rana formed an initiative named Manachennaikosam with the aim of collecting relief funds from various parts of Hyderabad. Venkatesh, Prabhas associated themselves with this project. Nani,
Rakul Preet Singh, Navdeep have also associated with Rana for the noble cause.
Allu Arjun donated Rs. 25 lakhs to the rain victims through the CM Relief Fund. And Junior NTR and
Mahesh Babu donated Rs. 10 lakh each.
Ravi Teja seemed to provide Rs. Lakh rupees. Kalyan Ram donated Rs. Five lakhs towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Varun Tej did his bit by providing Rs. 2 lakhs while
Sampoornesh Babu seems to have given Rs, 50,000.
Sai Dharam Tej had stated that he would provide amenities and medicines worth Rs. Three lakhs for the victims.
Sundeep Kishan seemed to have sent 5,000 food packets from his home in Chennai.
Ramanaidu Charitable Trust, which is the initiative of Rana’s family, did its best by starting a nation-wide initiative to garner relief amenities. This campaign has the support of Bollywood stars like
Kalki Koechlin and
Sandalwood also showed its humanitarian side; actress Tara stated that she would contribute Rs. 1 lakhs towards the Tamil Nadu CM Public Relief Fund. V Harikrishna, composer in Sandalwood helped the rain-affected victims.
As per reports, Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has contributed Rs. 1 crore for rain-affected victims in Chennai.
These are updates about the celebs who have either donated money or used the powerful medium as social media. One thing is very clear from the social networking updates that the actors and actresses have done their best. It is indeed heartening to see such gestures even in the face of adversity.
