Bangarada Manushya: Longest Run Movie In Sandalwood

Bangarada Manushya was directed by Siddalingaiah, distributed by “Srinidhi Productions” and was released on 31st March 1972. This film is mainly based on a novel written by T.K. Rama Rao. Though the author was famous for his crime stories, this was different from the normal novels he wrote. This was a story based on a social drama. The film was produced by R.Lakshman and Gopal. Most of the shots in the film were shot in a village called “Kalasa” which is situated near Chikmagalur. At the time of release, critics criticized the movie severely but after the release, it became the most successful movie of all times.

The plot revolves around the life of the protagonist Rajiv, who, though well-educated, takes up farming to help his elder sister’s family. While doing this, many people try discouraging him, but he doesn’t listen to anyone except his heart. In between, he is doubted upon for leaving his wife and child alone and going to Belgaum every six months. His nephew doesn’t find it right. So, he goes and checks what is happening and on seeing Rajiv’s photo in that house; he thinks that Rajiv is involved in adultery. In the end, Rajiv’s nephew embarrasses Rajiv to the extent that he gets up from the dining table, leaves his food and walks off. After this, everyone gets to know that the lady in Belgaum was his step-sister and that he had kept it as a secret and had helped her right from the beginning. By the time they start searching him, he will be long gone into the sunset.
