Major Boost For Kannada Cinema

Sandalwood is all set to get a major boost from the government.

According to the recent reports, the current Karnataka administration led by Siddaramaiah has announced a series of reforms. These include a dedicated corpus fund of 3 crores, a cap of Rs. 200 on tickets, and a separate OTT platform. The CM announced these provisions during the presentation of the Karnataka government’s budget. The demand for an OTT platform was being pushed by several Kannada stars since the past one and a half year.

This is nothing less than a booster shot for the ailing Sandalwood, which is currently facing a crisis similar to, if not worse than Kollywood i.e. Tamil cinema. After a fantastic year that was 2022, the next two years were extremely forgettable for the Sandalwood.

Most of the movies in 2024 were washouts, with none reaching even the 100 crore mark.
