Prem Kumar

Prem Kumar is an Indian actor working in Kannada films. He made his debut in the year 2004 with the film ‘Praana’ but got his fame with the 2005 hit film ‘Nenapirali’. Prem even won a Filmfare Best Actor Award for this movie. He was born on 18 April 1975 in Karnataka to a weaver. Prem did his schooling from Kalyani School and after that got a job in Indian Telephone Industries Limited. He became a weaver just like his father and continued his work for 13 years. Prem was an ardent movie lover and spent half of his earnings in watching movies in the theatres. He used to watch 3-4 movies per week and used to buy film related magazines and papers. On his friend’s insistence, he started working in serials as a junior artist. Kumar worked in Manvantara and appeared in Ardha Satya. He made his debut in films with the movie Praana in 2004. This film was made by a group of newcomers and didn’t do well but in 2005 he proved his worth with the film Nenapirali. Another movie, Jothe Jotheyali also made its impact. Kumar’s movies Pallakki, Savi Savi Nenapu and Gunavantha did not do any business at the box office and were a big time flop. He is called as Lovely Star in Kannada. Prem did not want to sign remakes and he kept on giving flops over and over again. Then, he signed a movie which was the remake of the Tamil movie Ahaa, called Ghauttham and with ‘Jote Jotheyali’ fame Ramya he signed a film called Jothegara. Prem acted in a film which had many controversies because of the kiss scene in it. The movie was I Am Sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona. Its release was shelved because of the controversies and was released later. The film did not do good business. After a streak of flops to his credit, he appeared in the Tamil-Kannada Bilingual film Chandra opposite Shriya Saran in the year 2013. The director for the movie Chandra was Roopa Iyer. Prem’s another movie Charminar was critically acclaimed and is considered as his career best film so far. He won his second Filmfare in the Best Actor Category. In 2015 he appeared in a cameo role in the movie Ring Road. This film is all about girls. Another Version of Prem Kumar: Prem Kumar is a Kannada actor who is popularly known as Prem or Nenapirali after his first commercial hit with the same name in 2005 and also bagged a film fare award for best actor. It was a romantic film, and the audience accepted the character of Nenapirali soon after that. However, he debuted with a film named Praana in 2004. His debut film Praana was a failed attempt at the box office by an entirely new team of Director Prakash, composer allwyn and the main leads Preeti and Prem himself. Next year, in 2006 he continued his charm yet again with a love story and his solo release Jothe Jotheyali opposite Ramya. It was directed by Dinakar Toogudeep as his directorial debut project and the film was major hit of that year. In the following years, the actor faced a downfall when his movies sank at the box office one after another. A few of his flopped projects which commercially as well as critically bombed at the box office were Pallakki (2007), Gunavantha (2007), Honganasu (2008), Gauttham (2009), Savi Savi Nenapu (2010). His chained failed efforts and falling position even made his to take his words back of never doing a remake, and he did Gauttham , which was a remake of Ahaan also did a cameo in multi-starrer film Eradane Maduve with the protagonists Ananth Nag and Suhasini. In 2011 Kumar had his film I Am sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona released which created a lot of controversy for a kiss scene between the leads and after its initial release it was release in the same year, but that too went without much profit. After a couple of unpleasant years and frequent flops, Kumar had his big release Chandra in 2013. It was a Tamil –Kannada bilingual project opposite Shriya Saran. Though the film was major, it got connected to a series of controversies and not only resulted in a scuffle between Kumar and director Roopa Iyer but also its Tamil version failed to open at the box office. His long time lost in screen presence and success was later found in his next release Charminar in 2013. It was directed by R. Chandru, and Kumar was even applauded as this could be his best work till now and he also won his second Film Fare Actor award. Later in 2013 and early 2014 both his films Shatru and Athi Aparoopa respectively, which were long pending projects, again bombed at the box office. However 2014 gave him a sigh of relief and satisfaction with his next film Fair and Lovely, directed by Raghuram which performed extremely well at box office and made Kumar’s way open for much appreciation but their another joint venture Male in 2015 turned out average in all aspects. Kumar’s recent project was Mast Mohabbat opposite Poonam Bajwa, which was directed by debutant Mohan Malagi, and his upcoming flick which was previously delayed is scheduled for release this year.
