Dhina (also called Dheena), is a recognised South Indian music composer in movies and television shows. He is famously known for his composition of the title track in the cult TV show ‘Chithi”, which aired on Sun TV. His compositions have struck a chord into the hearts of many listeners and made him a popular musician in the South Indian Industry.

The Tamil Nadu musician, studied in Savithri Ammal Orientation Higher Secondary School in Mylapore. After he got his SSLC certificate he started developing his musical skills. Coming from a family of musicians, Dhina, always had a keen interest in the art. He is the son of musician Padma Kalyan. He learnt to play the instrument Veena from V Srinivas Iyengar for a total of 6 years. His foray into the music industry started after he was appointed as the 4th assistant musician for popular and reputed music composer G.K. Venkatesh. He also worked as a music conductor, during his struggling period, for Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. He went on to work for a range of television shows and movies in various different languages.

Born in 15th January, 1966, the composer has worked in distinct languages like Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Konkan. Aathi Pon Gaalamma, his first composition was released in the album Aathi. He has worked for a variety of popular television shows like Annamala, Ninaivugal, Payanam, Nambikkai, Chellamay, Metti Oli and various other shows.

Dhina has composed over 400 songs in his brilliant career and is still going strong. His first music composition in movies was in the 2001 Tamil movie named Middle Class Madhavan. Although the romantic comedy movie received mixed reaction from audience and critics alike, the music was appreciated in the movie. His rise to popularity was due to the success and popularity of the television show Chithi. The title track of the show gave the protagonist, playing the role of a Stepmother, a character depth. On 2004, Dhina won the Dinakaran Award for Best Music Director. He also won the Sun TV Best Music Director Award for Thiruppachi. The ace music composer is known throughout the South movie and television industry for his soulful tracks. He has two children named, Ram Kiran Dhina and Shridula Dhina. His wife’s name is Mrs. Hema Malini. He also, recently tried to convert his success in the music studio into the movie sets. He debuted as an actor in the movie Soozhnilai.

Leon James was born on December first, 1991 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is a music composer and also a singer, who is a true master of playing the Organ and the guitar, which he started learning at the age of three. His interest in music was fuelled by his father Noel James, who was then working as the manager of the legendary musician A.R.Rahman. During his college days, he was lucky enough to befriend another legend in the industry- Anirudh Rravichander, with whom he performed in the college band- ‘Zinx’. Together, they even bagged the envied Oooh La LA Award for best keyboardists in 2009.Apart from several awards that the band received in various performances, it was these performances that gave him the courage to create his own music which was well received by the few listeners who had access to it at that time- like his friends, and close relatives. Before taking part in movies as a music composer, Leon had taken smaller professions in the music field itself, such as playing live music and sounds on his piano for stage shows and performances.He has also worked in the musical albums of his friend Anirudh and other maestros such as Santhosh Narayanan and Thaman. In 2015, Tamil filmmaker Raghava Lawrence happened to come across one of the musical albums- ‘VaayaEnVeera’ which he had uploaded to youtube. Raghava took an instant liking for the particular song and thought that it would be apt for the film that he was working on at that time,‘Kanchana 2’- a horror/comedy film. Thus, Leon was given his big break into the movie industry, and he was made the chief music composer of the movie. In ‘Kanchana 2’, he composed two songs, both of which were hits in the subcontinent. His fame skyrocketed, and there was great news of the young ‘boy genius’ who could create great music within a short period. Leon is also a self-taught musician. According to him, it was his father who has been an inspiration for whom, as he had even set up his own studio exclusively for practice sessions. The style, lyrics and rhythm and each song composed by him is distinct and different from the last. After ‘Kaanchana 2’, Leon was approached to be the music director of ‘Ko2’, and he did not think twice before accepting that golden opportunity, thanks to which he has another set of hit songs to add to the feathers on his cap.

Dharan Kumar

Dharan Kumar, whose biggest childhood inspiration was Michael Jackson, is a music composer of Indian origin. Most of his works are focused in the Tamil film industry. Born on 8 October, 1984, Dharan Kumar had an interest for music from an early age. At an early stage in his career, he assisted big music composers such as Harry Jayaraj in the film, ‘Anniyan’. As a college student, he often used to play in his college. There he got noticed by the daughter (Saranya) of a well known Tamil director, K. Bhagyaraj. K. Bhagyaraj was directing the film ‘Parijatham’ at that time, and gave Dharan Kumar an opportunity to compose a song for the film. His first song, “Unnai Kandaene", was a chart buster hit. Moreover, it was declared as one of the best songs of the year 2006. Next in line was a small budget horror film titled ‘Sify’. Apart from gaining appreciation for song composition, Dharan Kumar’s background score in the film was kept in high regard. Sify was a landmark in Dharan Kumar’s career as it helped him establish his ground in the Tamil film industry. His soundtrack was next heard in the 2009 film, ‘Laadam’. The hip hop film was a huge failure, and along with it drowned the soundtrack of the film. In 2010, Dharan ventured into the Malayalam film industry with the movie, The Thriller. The film music turned out to be a big chart buster. Apart from composing music for films, Dharan Kumar has also composed jingles for television advertisements. He created the theme song for the Challenger Beach Volleyball Championship, which was held in Chennai in the year 2010. To pay a tribute to his childhood hero, Michael Jackson, he not just composed a single called, “Sing One More Time”, but also gave the lyrics to the song, which was released in 2009. He is also known to give the composition for the Tamil film, “Aaha Kalyanam”, which is the remake of a blockbuster Bollywood movie, “Band Baaja Baraat”.
