The actor was born on 23 March 1951 in Bangalore and but left the city and landed up in Chennai and worked in drama companies and later entered the film industry where he could only get smaller roles. Thus, the actor rose to prominence slowly after 1982 when actor-director K. Bhagyaraj offered him roles regularly in every movie that he had directed.
