Chandru has been working in the film industry from a very young age. There is a story behind his name, between 1986-87, Chandru and his wife work in serial as the main character titled Sihi Kahi which telecast every Friday at the 7.00-7.30 slot on Doordarshan Kannada. The serial was the situation-comedy serial, in that serial Chandru and his wife, Geetha acted as husband and wife, their love flourished during working in the serial. Later in 1990, they got married.

The show was enormously popular with the Kannada audience. So, they added Sihi Kahi in their name- Sihi Kahi Chandru and Sihi Kahi Geetha.
