Pulavar Pulamaipithan is a well-known Tamil lyrics writer. He wrote many poems and lyrics for numerous Tamil featured films, and with his profound work, he got recognized for the song “Naan yaar nee yaar” from the movie “Kudiyirundha Kovil” in 1968. He was born on 6th October 1935 in Coimbatore near a village called Irugur. He started his journey towards Chennai with a goal to write songs for Tamil movies in 1964. Before starting his work in cinema, he used to teach children at Santhome high school. During early stages of his life, he worked in Cambodia Mills, a textile mill in Coimbatore. He completed studied Tamil literature in (TSA Tamil Kalluri) Tava Tiru Shanthalinga Adigalar College, Coimbatore. Apart from his life in cinema, he served as a noble government servant by being in Tamil Nadu legislative council as deputy chairman. For his profound work in politics, he was lauded by M. G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and was appointed as poet laureate (Arasavai Kavingar). He wrote a book titled, “Bookollamae Bali Pidamaai” which created a notable impact in many people’s life. In his career as poet and lyricist he received many awards like, Periyar award (2001) awarded by Tamil Nadu Government, Best lyrics Award for the film Pathini Penn (1993) by state Government, multiple awards for best lyrics in the year 1988 by Tamil Nadu government, best lyrics award for the film Engamma Maharani in the year 1981 by state government, and yet another award for best lyrics in the year 1978 for “Maduraiyai Meetta Sundara Pandiyan” film by the state government. He wrote thousands of unforgettable songs for more than 100 films and here are few of the many, which had powerful lyrics and were celebrated by people, Adimai Penn, Nalla Neram, Kakki Sattai (Old), Naan Sigappu Manithan (Old), Oorkavalan, Kudiyirundha Kovil, Jeeva Nadi, Gowri, Sakkaalaththi, Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei, Thenaliraman, Chithirayil Nilachoru, Agni Paaravi, Arima Nambi, Theri. His journey in the lyrical world has not yet stopped and he will continue receiving awards in the years to come.
