Kumanan Kumaran is an author, a counselling psychologist, and a PhD student. He lives in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has cerebral palsy diplegia, which makes him a wheelchair user when outdoors and a supported walker indoors. He is a counseling psychologist by profession and has his clinic called "K Point," which is located in his home only. The motto of his clinic is "Helping People to Grow Better Together." He is doing his PhD in psychology at Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. He has been working since 2012, and he has made his working procedure limited to 'On calls' till he completes his PhD and then he plans to make another place ready for work.
His specialties include Emotional Regulation, Anxiety Disorders/Depression (including panic attacks). He has also worked with children, adolescents, and adults. He was part of a normal school environment until his 5th grade, but due to the unfortunate situation of a lack of accessible classrooms, he enrolled in NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and started studying from home. He did his 10th grade directly, followed by the 12th grade. Psychology was one of the subjects in both of the grades and he found himself attracted to that subject.
His father, Mr Elango Kumanan, was firm about his education and made him learn French from Alliance Francis of Madras and Hindi through home tuition. He finished his postgraduation degree in "Counselling Psychology" in 2011 from the University of Madras and his Master of Philosophy from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore, and then he started pursuing a PhD. He has also written a book, 'Aanantha Thaandavam,' an autobiography in Tamil, and the English version of the autobiography is titled "CP to CP" Cerebral Palsy to Counselling Psychologist, was released on 11th September 2014.
