C. Ranganathan is a screenwriter and a director who works predominantly in the Tamil film industry. He made his very first movie in the year 1996. The film was a romantic drama titled Coimbatore Mappillai and starred Sanghav and Vijay. In the two years 1996 and 1997, C. Ranganathan managed to release three films consecutively, all of which were successful and widely appreciated and loved. These three movies were Tata Birla, Aahaa Enna Porutham and Coimbatore Mappillai. He began working on the film Indru Mudhal Happy in the year 1998 which starred Senthil and Jayaram Goundamani playing the lead roles.

Soon the lead pair changed to Preetha and Pandiarajan. Unfortunately, this project did not reach the post-production stage and resulted in being shelved. In the second half of 1998, C. Ranganathan began working on another film titled Sammy Kodhuththa Varam with Preetha and Napolean Vignesh playing the roles of the lead characters. As fate would have this, this project too did not reach the end of production. The next film Love Pannunga Sir which starred Livingston did not progress even after being announced in January 1999. His consequent project called Vandharu Jeicharu, also failed to reach the theatres.

After a continuous string of consecutive failed attempts at making and production of various movie projects, C. Ranganathan decided to step back a little and look towards an alternative to Tamil cinema. After deliberation and discussion, he decided to try something different and moved away from cinema and more towards television industry to try his hand on television shows and serials. He began working with K. Bhagyaraj, and the collaboration resulted in the making of Vilakku Vacha Nerathula, which was a Tamil soap Opera and aired on Kalaignar TV.

The show began airing in the year 2009 and starred actors like Sanjeev, Delhi Kumar among others. In the year 2014 C. Ranganathan worked as an actor in the movie Lingaa where he portrayed the character of a security guard. In 2015, this acting streak continued as C. Ranganathan acted in a movie by the name Vasuvum Saravanum Onna Padichavanga in the year 2015 where he played the character of a doctor. In the year 2016, C. Ranganathan made appearances in two films, namely Nayyapudai and Mudinja Ivana Pudi. He also contributed to movies like Aha Ennan Porutham which released in the year 1996 and Viswanath which released in the year 1997.
