A.R. Murugadoss is such a familiar name all over India. He is one among the best film directors in India. Being born in the southern state Tamilnadu, A.R. Murugadoss reached fame in northern states too. His popularity rose, through the film Ghajini starred by Surya and Asin. After watching this film, Bollywood star Aamir Khan called A.R. Murugadoss and asked him to direct the film in Hindi. The success of the Hindi Ghajini is the turning point in A.R. Murugadoss’s life. His debut movie was Dheena. He became a well known director after the Tamil Block Buster movie Ramana, starred by Vijaykanth and Simran. A.R. Murugadoss has directed Vijay in Thuppakki and Kaththi; Ajith in Dheena; Surya in Ghajini and 7 Aum Arivu. He is not only a good director, but a better script writer and a producer too. He produced the film Maan Karate, led by Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Thirukumaran, his assistant. Madurai Meenakshi is the first film, which released with the dialogues written by A.R. Murugadoss. 10 Enradhukkulla and Akira are the upcoming movies in the list of A.R. Murugadoss. Out of which Akira is directed by him and 10 Enradhukula is produced by him. Some of his popular production works are Raja Rani, Engaeyum Eppothum and Vatthi Kucchi. This great director from Kallakurichi, a small town near Trichy did his schooling in the Government Higher Secondary School.

Praveen Gandhi is a brilliant Indian actor and film director who have made many big budget Tamil films such as Ratchagan in year 1997; the romantic musical film, Jodi in 1999 and another action film, Star in 2001.  His directorial journey started when producer, K. T. Kunjumon of Ratchagan noted him as a young talented man who has full of ideas and strives to work hard. Ratchagan was launched on January 1996 but it was filmed in January 1997. The casts include Nagarjuna, A.R Rahman and Miss Universe winner, Sushmita Sen. It was filmed around India including places like Goa, Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumbai and Manali. Kunjumon claims that the film will become India’s most expensive production. However, it received mixed reviews and failed to make it to a box office success.    Praveen came back in year 1999 through the romantic drama film, Jodi which also feature actress, Simran and Prashanth. The film was first released and was titled as Praveenkanth, Praveen’s real name and later he was known as Praveen Gandhi. He also appeared in a cameo role in the said film and portrayed the role of a deserting youngster, assisting the role of Prakanth. When the film was opened, it received positive reviews and made it to become a box office success, which led him to work in another film venture with the same casts in the Tamil action film, Star in 2001. But it failed to make reach the same success that Jodi received. Praveen played a supporting role in the film and he gained negative reviews for his direction and acting.  In year 2003, he started working in the Tamil film, Thullal where he played the main lead role. This film was delayed and eventually released in year 2007. He received poor reviews and the critic labeled the film as ‘torture’. But despite his constant failure in the recent films he has done, he later announced two more films on his credit entitled, Muktha and the film, Vilasam TN 03 6999. But both films were never release nor completed. He also planned to make the film, Adayalam, which stars Ragini, but it didn’t happen.  After some time of hibernation, in year 2014, Praveen directed the Tamil film, Puli Paarvai which is based on the life of Balachandran Prabhakaran who headed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam movement and the son of Velupillai Prabhakaran. The film also tackles his journey and how he was captured and murdered. Praveen took some time on researching about the film and he even went to Srilanka to take a look on the landscape, culture, the climate there and the people including their dialect.

Aishwarya R Dhanush

Aishwarya R. Dhanush is a well-known Indian film director, playback singer and classical dancer. She was born on January 1, 1982 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in India to the legendary actor in Tamil film industry, Rajinikanth and film producer Latha Rajinikanth. She is the youngest in the family and her sister, Soundarya R. Ashwin also works in the Tamil film industry as a producer and director. She completed her education in a law school that is managed by her mother. Aishwarya got married to Tamil film actor, Dhanush and they have two sons, Yatra and Linga. She made her directorial debut in the Tamil coming-of-age romantic drama film, ‘3’ in year 2012, which stars Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles. Even though the film failed at the box-office, Aishwarya received nomination at the SIIMA Award for Best Debutant Director. The song Kolaveri Di became immensley popular because of its unconventional style. She also helmed and penned the dialogues and story of the recently released psychological comedy thriller film, Vai Raja Vai. The film stars Gautham Karthik and Priya Anand in the lead roles. Aishwarya stated in an interview that she was impressed with Gautham’s work in Kadal by Mani Ratnam and so she decided to cast him in the film. She also sang the song “Natpae Natpae” in the 2003 Tamil film, ‘Whistle’ and “Un Mela Aasadhan” in Selvaraghavan’s ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ in 2010, through which she earned a nomination at the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Aishwarya worked as an associate director of the film as well and became a voice actor for Reemma Sen’s character. Prior to working in feature films, Aishwarya used to do short films with the help of the people close to her, like her husband and Anirudh. Recently, she launched her YouTube channel, Ten Entertainment, to promote South Indian short films by the aspiring filmmakers. The channel releases four films each in four languages (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada) every Thursday. Aishwarya believes that in the long run, some investors might be interested in financing the films. Dhanush’s very own Wunderbar Films and Divo were using the social media to promote these short films. Aishwarya may be the daughter of a superstar (Rajinikanth) and a wife of another superstar (Dhanush), but she worked hard to carve her own niche in the Tamil cinema. She did not attend any film school, yet she managed to learn all the ropes of the industry by being an assistant director, to making her way up to where she is now.
