Narayan Iyengar was a South Indian musician, born on 25 Th January 1903 in Madras (now called Chennai). He made a remarkable history in Carnatic music development using the instrument ‘Chitravina’ also called ‘Gotuvadyam’. In 1932, he operated a gramophone with his friend A.V. Meiyappan, a film director. He also performed at the Town Hall of Kuala Lumpur, where he remarked as a Professor, he made it to the headlines saying,” The highest flights of ecstasy to which Carnatic music can raise were revealed by the performance on the famous Gotuvadyam by Professor Narayan Iyengar at the Town hall of Kuala Lumpur.” He achieved by keeping his audience spell-bound for over 3 hours.
