Premgi initially wanted to be a music composer and to follow his dreams; he commenced his career as an assistant to Yuvan Shankar Raja Yuvan Shankar Raja is the popular music composer, >> Read More... , his cousin, who is a renowned film music composer. The journey he started never ceased, as soon after, he became a playback singer. He is significantly celebrated for his rap songs in Tamil cinema. He has also worked along with Yuvan Shankar Raja in remixing some of his compositions. His first remix was “Loosu Penne” from the movie Vallavan.

In 2006, Prem ventured into acting in Silambarasan’s Vallavan as a supporting actor. He kickstarted his directing career through Chennai 600028, released in 2007, which is the directorial venture of his sibling Venkat Prabhu. Portraying the comical character of Seenu, Premgi soon became a household name as this film became a sensational blockbuster that year, establishing him as a comedian.

There was no end to his success spring. In 2010, he played the lead role, in Venkat Prabhu’s Goa. Soon afterward he was awarded as ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in International Tamil Film Awards for his role in Mankatha, a blockbuster of the year 2011. He has also tried his hands in Malayalam films, making his debut in 2013 in the movie, North 24 Kaatham. As of now, he has appeared in 23 films so far, including special appearances.
Another important fact about this talented South Indian is that his stage name, ‘Premgi’, is a spelling mistake. Originally, his name is Prem G, where G stands for his father’s name.
