M C Josephine is a famous Indian politician and activist. She worked as the Chairperson of the "Kerala Women's Commission" from 25th May 2017 to 25th June 2021. She served as a member of the CPI(M) central committee. Josephine served as the CPI(M) candidate in the 2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election. She stood from the former Mattancherry constituency.
On Wednesday, Josephine appeared on a Malayalam television channel. She took part in a live call-in show. During the event, a woman called her. Her husband and mother-in-law were harassing her, she claimed.
Her statement prompted widespread outrage in Kerala. Later, the death of a 24-year-old lady in Kollam sparked debate. The woman died as a result of dowry harassment. Josephine's resignation was demanded by opposition leaders. In addition, Congress issued a public statement condemning her.
Similarly, the CPI(M) has distanced itself from the senior person. A Vijayaraghavan, state secretary of the CPI (M), told the media that Josephine's response was not well accepted by society. Following the party's state secretariat meeting, the statement was issued.
The ruling CPM nominated her for the job in 2017. Later, they instructed her to resign. The CPM's state secretariat harshly criticized the 61-year-old legislator. According to them, she was ruining the Party's women-friendly image. Josephine is a member of the Democratic Party's central committee. Her term was supposed to end in 2022. Josephine has caused several scandals in her tenure. A viral clip from a television show is a recent example.
Thousands of people shared the video. Josephine is angry due to the poor audio quality. Her expulsion had been urged by the opposition Congress, BJP, and the CPI's student wing AISF. She is a central committee member of the ruling CPI(M). She argued that her statements were being misconstrued at first.
An FIR should be lodged against her, according to BJP state chief K Surendran. He stated that Josephine allegedly insulted a woman by facial harassment. Kerala Women's Commission chairperson M C Josephine offered an apology late Thursday. The ruling CPM judged her words offensive to a domestic assault victim.
Josephine was involved in yet another scandal in January. She yelled at an 87-year-old woman's complaint. A relative requested that Josephine move the Women's Commission to a more convenient location.
