Mullappally Ramachandran

Mullappally Ramachandran is a politician from Kerala. He was born on 7th November 1944 at Kozhikode. Mullappally Ramachandran is the son of the popular Congress leader, Mullappally Gopalan. He did his Bachelor of Law at the Government Law College in Kozhikode and did his Master’s degree in Arts at Kerala University. Ramachandran had been active in politics since the 1960s. Mullappally Ramachandran is also a member of the Congress party and is the President of KPCC (Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee). Mullappally Ramachandran is a successful candidate from the Kannur constituency and had been elected from the constituency five times. For ten years, starting from 2009, he was the Vatakara Constituency’s MP. He had been the Minister of State for Home Affairs in the 15th Lok Sabha. He was the Chairman of the Congress Forum for Socialist Action in 1969.

In 1970, he was appointed as the President of Calicut district’s Youth Congress. From 1977 to 1982, he was the President of KPYC (Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress). He had been a member of the consultative committee in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. In 1987, he was a member of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation and in the same year, he had been the consultative committee member in the Ministry of External Affairs. He also joined the Rules Committee as a member in 1987 and was there till 1990. From 1988 to 1995, he was the Joint Secretary of AICC (All India Congress Committee (Indira)). He also had been a member of the Committee of Estimates in 1990 and 1991. He had been in the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Commerce.

In 1991, he became the Union Minister of State Agriculture and Cooperation. He also had been in the Committee on Industry from 1993 to 1996. In 2015, the Congress party appointed him as the Indian National Congress Central Election Authority's Chairman. In 2018, he was appointed as the President of KPCC. Mullappally Ramachandran is married to Usha Ramachandran.
