Rakshita

Swetha who is also known as Rakshita is a South Indian film actress. She has acted in various films in the Kannada, Tamil and Telugu industry. Rakshita entered the film industry with the Kannada film Appu sharing screen space with the famed Puneet Rajkumar.

Rakshita was born and brought up in Bangalore. Her parents were already part of the film industry. Her father was the well-known cinematographer B. C. Gowrishankar and her mother was also a well-known Kannada language cine actress.Like many daughters, Rakshita has chosen to follow the footsteps of her mother. Some of her well-known movies include Appu, Idiot, Kalasipalya, Ayya, Deadly Soma, Mandya and Hubli. Rakshita’s career had catapulted after the runaway hit Kalasipalya. Post marriage with Kannada director Prem, Rakshita refrained from acting in movies like many other top heroines. Instead, she chose to assist her husband in his filmmaking career. She has also played the role of a producer in a couple of Kannada films. Rakshita forayed into Politics in 2012 by joining the Badavara Shramikara Raitara (BSR) Congress. Until April 2013, she served as the president of the women’s wing of the BSR Congress post which she quit the party quoting differences with party members as the reason for the termination of her relationship with the party. She then joined the BJP in 2014.

This film was remade in Telugu and Tamil also; interestingly she played the same role in both the remakes. Her film ‘Kalasipalya’ (2005) became a big hit. After her marriage with Prem she became the producer. Her first film as a producer was ‘Jogayya’ (2011) directed by Prem was well appreciated. Rakshita joined politics in March 2012 by making alliance with Badavara Shramikara Raitara (BSR) Congress. Then, due to some issues with the party, she joined Janata Dal (Secular) in April 2013. Further with the same issue with party, she joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2014. By this, she was called the ‘party-hooper’ by the media.
