Shruti has acted in more than 100 Kannada films and several films in other languages such as Tamil and Malayalam. She was given the name as Shruti by the famous Kannada actor director Dwarakish, who also introduced her as a leading actor for his film ‘Shruti’ in 1990. Shruti started her movie career as supporting characters before venturing into mainstream films. "Shruti" movie was a most successful film running over 100 days in theaters across Karnataka.

Shruti, originally named as Girija, is an Indian actress, and politician. She has appeared in an excess of 140 movies, throughout her 25-year career span. Born in the state of Karnataka, Shruti spent her childhood in Puttur. In the year 1989, she made her film debut in the Malayalam movie “Swantham Ennu Karuthi.” The following year, Shruti entered Kannada film industry with a supporting role in Aasegobba Meesegobba. In 1990, “Girija,” as she was originally known, was given the screen name of “Shruti” by director Dwarakish. She portrayed the character of Shruti, in the movie titled by the same name. The film went on to become a success, running in theaters for more than 25 weeks.

During the 90s, she featured in movies such as Gauri Ganesha, CBI Shiva, Sindhoora Tilaka, Alimayya, Midida Hrudayagalu, Muddina Maava, Rasika, Jaana, Aagatha, Kalki, and Veerappa Nayaka, just to name a few. Shruti is twice, the recipient of State Film Awards, for Kalki, and Aagatha. She also has a couple of Filmfare Awards for the Best Actress, for the same. The millennium decade featured her in movies such as Soorappa, Gattimela, Swalpa Adjust Madkolli, Gowdru, Ben Johnson, Pandu Ranga Vitalla, Maanikyan, Sirivantha, Avva, and Akka Thangi. She was presented with a Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Gowdru.

Shruti was accredited with a Filmfare Award for the Best Actress for Puttakana Highway. She made her television debut with “Streethvam,” a Malayalam soap opera, in 2005. Shruti has also featured in the Tamil serial “Karthigai Pengal.” She set foot in Kannada television industry via “Bigg Boss Kannada,” where she was declared the winner of the show. Shruti entered politics in the year 2009 and served as the chief of Karnataka Women and Child development Board. She was initially married to director S.Mahendar, in 1999, and, after 11 years of marriage, she filed for a divorce. Shruti’s second marriage occurred in 2013, to journalist-turned-director, Chakravarthy.
