Jack Angel was a voice actor and former radio personality. He was born on October 24, 1930, and his birthplace was Modesto, California, USA. In the year 1957, he graduated from San Francisco State University. During this time, Angel also worked for a radio station in California as a disc jockey and later decided to make his career in radio programs. Ten years later, he became one of the most famous radio personalities, with radio programs heard on various stations such as KFI, Los Angeles, and KMPC. Angel also worked in theatre and stage productions much early in his career at The Actor’s Ring and the Portland Civic Theatre. He began experimenting with voice-overs which he produced for his clients during his broadcasting career. He got helped by Gary Owens, who forwarded Angel’s demo tape to his agent when he was still working at KMPC.Â
Twenty years later, after being employed in the radio industry for so many years, Angel shifted to voice acting full-time. He also made some guest appearances in the famous Scooby-Doo, Scrappy-Doo, and The Smurfs.
He also worked in the Transformers series (1985), lending his voice to the characters of Astrotrain, Smokescreen, Ramjet, and Omega Supreme. He lent his voice even for different seasons of Transformers. He worked as a voice-over artist for several animated movies and series such as Pole Position, Balto, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, A.I. He also ventured into voice games such as Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End, Ratchet & Clank, etc. He provided additional voices in movies such as Toy Story, Toy Story 2, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, and Despicable Me 2.
Angel was married twice. With him getting divorced from his first wife, Barbara Angel, in 1980, he later married a talent agent named Arlene Thornton in 1984 and together had three children.
Angel passed away on October 19, 2021. He was 90.
