Zayan Lala was born in Gujarat; his family moved abroad for business purposes, and Lala grew up in Houston, Texas. From his childhood, Lala was very interested in films and TV shows and pursued his passion for filmmaking and scriptwriting. Lala attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Digital Post Production Media.

Zayan Lala made his debut in the entertainment industry with the television series "1000 Ways to Die" in 2008.
