The tennis legend Roger Federer was born on August 8, 1981. He was born in Switzerland in Basel Cantonal Hospital. He was born to Robert Federer and Lynette Federer. His father is a Swiss, and his mother is a South African. He has an elder sister Diana. Federer is both South African and Swiss citizen. His native language is Swiss German. Federer is a Roman Catholic. He also played badminton and basketball. Federer married former Women’s Tennis Player Mirka Vavrinec. The couple has a pair of twins. Two girls named Myla Rose and Charlene Riva and two boys Leo and Lennart.

He started the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003. It got established to help children in education and sports. In 2005, he helped the affected people of Katrina Hurricane. In 2004, he aided the victims of Tsunami. He visited Tamil Nadu in 2006 for Tsunami relief. UNICEF chose him as the Goodwill Ambassador in April 2006. He organized ‘Hit for Haiti’ to help the Haiti Earthquake Victims.

He started playing tennis at the age of Eight. He started playing tennis as a junior. He won lots of tournament. In 1998, he became the Junior World Number One. In 2000, he played his first adult finals. He won the Hopman Cup in 2001 where he represented his home nation Switzerland. He beat Pete Sampras in French Open Quarterfinals to reach semis. Pete was Federer’s Favorite player. He won his first Masters in 2002. Then, he was ranked the sixth best tennis player in the world.

In 2003,  he won his first Grand Slam title in Wimbledon. He won seven finals in ATP tour. He was ranked 2nd in the tennis players of the world. He won 3 Grand slams in 2004. He became No.1 ranked tennis player after he won the Australian Open. He then won Wimbledon for the second time and US open for the first time. He then lost to Rafael Nadal at the French Open and Australian Open. But he won the Wimbledon for the third time. In 2006, he again won the Wimbledon. In 2010, he lost in quarterfinals at the Wimbledon. He lost the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US open in 2011. He got ranked number 3 then. He won the Indian Wells Masters in 2012. He beat Murray in Wimbledon and became the World number 1.

In 2012, in the finals of the Summer Olympics he lost to Andy Murray and took home silver. Due to serious back injury, he lost the Australian open and other tournaments in 2013. In 2014, he defeated Novac Djokovic in Dubai Tennis Championship. He won the Brisbane International in 2015 beating Milos Raonic in the finals. He won the ATP title for the seventh time. He underwent arthroscopic surgery in 2016. Currently, he is ranked number 3 in the world after No.1 ranked Novac Djokovic and British’s Andy Murray. He is one of the highest earning athletes in the world.
