Joseph Hill Joss Whedon was born on 23 June 1964 in New York City in New York, USA. He is the son of Tom Whedon, who is a television screenwriter, and Lee Stearns, who is a history teacher by profession. Whedon did his schooling from the Riverdale Country School, New York. He did his high school from the Winchester College, which is a boarding school in England. Joss pursued his further studies from the Wesleyan University, Middletown Connecticut and graduated in 1987. He was the student of a well-known historian and a cultural critic, Richard Slotkin.

Joss started working as a screenwriter in the year 1989. He worked as a member of the staff writers of the TV sitcoms ‘Parenthood’ and ‘Roseanne’.
