Joseph got married to Kai Cole in 1991. She is a film producer. They are the parents of Squire Cole and Arden Cole.

Whedon did his schooling from the Riverdale Country School, New York. He did his high school from the Winchester College, which is a boarding school in England. Joss pursued his further studies from the Wesleyan University, Middletown Connecticut and graduated in 1987. He was the student of a well-known historian and a cultural critic, Richard Slotkin.

Joss started working as a screenwriter in the year 1989. He worked as a member of the staff writers of the TV sitcoms ‘Parenthood’ and ‘Roseanne’. He is also the writer of the films ‘Waterworld’,’ The Getaway, ‘Speed’, ‘X-Men’, and ‘Twister’, but unfortunately did not receive any credits for his writings. Other than these movies, he is given the credit for writing and co-writing the movie scripts of ‘Alien: Resurrection’, ‘Toy Story’, ‘Titan A.E.’, and ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’.

In the post-2000 period, Joss wrote a show named ‘Firefly’, which was set in the year 2517. He is the recipient of three Eisner Awards for the movies ‘Astonishing X-Men’, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer season Eight’ and ‘Sugarshock!’. He has won the Bradbury Award 2009 under the category of the Outstanding Dramatic Presentation. He was also nominated twice for the Saturn Award for the movies ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ and ‘The Avengers’ (won).
