Silas Hickey is a Hong Kong-based filmmaker and producer. He is presently in charge of Cartoon Network's Snaptoons, Asia-Pacific animation content creation program. Based in Tokyo, Japan, Silas is in charge of the creative direction of Turner's pioneering original content creation projects in the Asia Pacific. These include identifying and approving the creation of high-quality original shorts from script to screen for all of the region's children's brands, including Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Toonami, and POGO. Silas grew up in Australia on a steady diet of Hanna-Barbera'Â toons, which marked the start of his long and varied engagement with the medium. Before joining Turner, Silas worked for various media companies, including Virgin, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Disney, to mention a few. He is also an industrial designer and documentary filmmaker who has won several honors for broadcast packaging and promotions.
He collaborates closely with the regional and global acquisitions teams to match Turner's brands and their promise to kids to offer entertaining, engaging, and relevant programming. This is also consistent with his vision of children worldwide growing up with a mix of locally created premium material and excellent shows from around the world. His Turner credits include the science fiction picture Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens, for which he worked as Executive Producer of the full-length Computer Graphics (CG) animated feature.
