Apart from his work, he was in the news in 2009, for his architectural adventure in his Venice abode. In the year 1998, John Melfi produced the blockbuster television series – Sex and the City. The United States based romantic comedy series which was initially aired on Television, was also then followed by three movies, leading to a Sex and the City Trilogy. The story of the movies was in continuation to the series and the roles were played by the same actors.

John has produced a significant part of the series. He was the co-executive Producer followed with the designation of the Executive Producer. He was also the Producer of the movie Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 which was released in 2010. Another show he worked with was ‘Rome’. It was a historical drama series with an ensemble cast of more than 15 characters and was based on a blend of British, American, and Italian people. The lead protagonists of the show were two soldiers, and most of its part was filmed in Italy.

He has received the ‘Danny Thomas Producer of the Year Award’ for Sex and the City in the year 2001, 2012 and 2004. He has also received the ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001 for the same show. For his venture ‘From the Earth to the Moon’, he won ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for Outstanding Limited Series. He also won the ‘Producers Guild America Award’. For his show ‘Rome’, he was given the British Academy Television Award for the Best Drama Series. He has also been nominated twice for his latest show ‘House of Cards’. In the year 2013, he was nominated for ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for Outstanding Drama Series and in the year 2014, for Producers Guild of America Award – Drama. Both the times, the show failed to win the accreditation.
