John Smithson is a famous film and television producer from the British film industry. He is one of the Director of Arrow Media, which is a media company based in London and also the Executive of Darlow Smithson Production. He is the brother of well-known political blogger, Mike Smithson. He has close relations with broadcasting commissioners all over the world. Touching The Void was one of his best movies released in 2003. It was based on the book by Joe Simpson and was established on the story of two climbers, Joe and Simon who venture out to reach the summit of Suila Grande in Peru. The film received positive reviews and critics.
The film won the BAFTA Award at the British Film Awards. It also got listed for an Oscar Best Feature Documentary Film. The Last Dragon, released in 2004, produced by John, is a fiction movie. It proposes a theoretical evolution of dragons and surmises how their life and behaviour would have been like if they existed and gradually evolved. The Beckoning Silence, released in 2007, is a British silver screen show and was produced by John. It dodges the unsuccessful attempt to scale the north face of the Eiger by Toni and three children. It won an International Emmy Award in 2008. Some other famous films directed by John include Black Box, The Affair, U be Dead, The Diary of Anne Frank, Clapham Junction, Looking For Elizabeth, Thriller in Manila, 127 Hours, and Into The Universe With Stephen Hawking.
Some other awards received by John are BAFTA Award and New York Festival World Gold Medal for 9/11: The Falling Man, Banff Television Festival Award, Grierson Award, Peabody Award, and News and Documentary Emmy Award for Thriller in Manila. He got nominated for an Oscar for the movie, 127 Hours.
