Don Carmody is a well-known producer, who has been making films for nearly four decades with about 90 films to his name. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, on April 16, 1951, and was brought up in Boston as well as Montreal and went on to produce films that became famous. He currently has offices in Toronto and Los Angeles. He studied at the Loyola University and had a law degree accredited in his name from McGill University. He started to work part time in movies while he was still at school. His first role was that of a driver in Robert Altman’s “McCabe and Mrs. Miller” in the year 1971 and then went on to work in many other roles such as a location scout in 'Ted Kotcheff's The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974). He started working at Montréal's Cinépix and later became the Vice-President In-Charge of Production. He involved himself in several tax-shelter productions mostly ‘David Cronenberg’s, 'Shivers' (1975), and 'Rabid' (1977), and then proceeded to do ‘Ivan Reitman’s breakout hit 'Meatballs' (1979), the movie which became the top-grossing film at the Canadian box office in 1980. The movie also won a Golden Reel Award, the same year. He was bestowed with this Television’s Golden Reel awards for Reitman’s directorial Meatballs, ‘Bob Clark’s sex comedy ‘Porky’s, 'Robert Longo's “Johnny Mnemonic”, ‘Christian Duguay’s “Art of War”, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Afterlife and Retribution.
In 1980’s, Don Carmody came up with his own production company in Los Angeles. He started producing movies one after the other at a frenzied pace. There was no looking back at this point. Carmody produced successful box-office hits Porky’s and Porky’s II, "A Christmas Story", “Weekend at Bernie”s series. He also produced the 7-time Emmy Awards nominated movie “The Late Shift”, along with the Producers' Guild of America Golden Laurel. Don Carmody produced a quality Canadian content feature film named ‘Polytechnique’, in the year 2009. The film overthrew all other movies winning the Best Picture at the 2010 Genie Awards. The film was nominated in 11 categories and won 9 of them. Alongside these, the film also was awarded as the Best Canadian Film, in the year 2009.
