Chris is a film producer, screenwriter, author, actor and director known for his work in American film industry. His full name is Christopher John Weitz, who is the brother of filmmaker Paul Weitz. Chris was born in
to actress Susan Kohner and novelist/men wear designer John Weitz. His father was originally from Berlin and is the grandson of Czech-born agent and producer Paul Kohner. He has always been related to films and acting, as his family has a vast history of working and making films. His father and maternal grandfather were Jewish and maternal grandmother was Catholic. He was blessed to be born in a family with such a religious history but was never force to follow any religion. He always described himself as a lapsed Catholic crypto-Buddhist. Along with his father, he went to St. Pauls’s School for boarding. He completed his education by acquiring a degree in English from Trinity College at Cambridge University in England. He was also a member of Knickerbocker Greys, which was a New York City youth marching corps which was in the existence since 1881. He started his journey with his brother and worked as a screenwriter. He was in a learning phase and did not earn much credit for his work. He then made his huge entrance as a co-writer for the animated movie Antz in 1998. He also tried his luck in TV sitcoms like Off Centre and
. In 1999, he went to direct and produce the epic comedy movie American Pie, which was an instant hit at the box office. The movie was loved by the youth of the country and was enjoyed widely. He then went on to his second film as director, Down To Earth; a comedy movie in 2001. In 2002, he went on to direct and writes About a Boy with his brother, which was a film based on the book of Nick Hornby. Later in 2003, Chris was hired for a big budget film based on the first book in Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ series.
The movie was his first big budget movie with the high inclusion of animations and VFX. He went to visit various earlier sets of movies like
and tried to work on it. He felt he was not capable enough to work on such a high scale and advance technological use, so he resigned from the work. He was replaced by British director Anand Tucker, who also left the project due to differences in opinions regarding creativeness. Chris was hired again, and the movie was completed with lots of adverse experience. The movie was released in 2007 and didn’t earn as much as expected. It received mix response and was a decent a movie altogether. He was then appointed for the second movie of the Twilight series. The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s direction was tough work for Weitz but he enjoyed it, and the results showed. New Moon was the highest grossing movie in the domestic box office history. Chris received many praises and was regarded as one of the best in the business at that moment. He also produced the other two sequels of American Pie movies which were also received beautifully by audiences and earned good reviews. He also acted in some movies like The Broken Hearts Club (2000), Chuck and Buck (2000) and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005). He formed Production Company with his brother called Depth of a field. He also stepped into the field of writing as he wrote a young novel trilogy series which began with The Young World (2014) and The New Order in 2015. Weitz is married to Mercedes Martinez, a Cuban-Mexican. He also has a son with her named Sebastian. He has been involved in many great works in the gone years like A Better Life, Cinderella and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He is also engaged in the upcoming Good Kids and Boogeyman Pop as a producer. Chris has worked hard and has dedicated his life to it and promised to work even hard and bring some more work in the light.
