in New York University film school where he worked at The Fillmore East as an usher; stage crew member, and in the psychedelic light show "Joe's Lights," performing with artists including The Who, Grateful Dead, Santana, Allman Brothers, Miles Davis, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Virgil Fox and Fleetwood Mac in New York City and London.
In 1970, he also won the national student film festival. In 1973, he moved to Los Angeles and got his start in the film industry. He worked with 12 movies from 1976 -2001 and 63 Television series from 1984-2019. In one of his interviews, he quoted that every lousy film doesn't begin like that, it starts as everyone working hard, but sometimes, it doesn't pay off and turns out bad. Allan Arkush is an Emmy-winning TV executive producer and director of NBC's hit series "Heroes." Arkush's directing credits include the Ramones' cult classic "Rock' n' Roll High School" as well, which Rolling Stone magazine named as one of the top-10 rock n' roll DVDs of all time.
