Her father's family was known to be the founders of the professional American football team named New York Giants while her mother's family were the founders of Pittsburgh Steelers, which is also an American football team. Timothy Christopher Mara, her father, was the vice president of New York Giants while Kathleen McNulty, her mother was a part-time real estate agent. Being the third child, Mara has an older brother, an older sister and a younger brother. Her father was of German, French-Canadian and Irish ancestry while her mother was a descent of Northern Irish and Italy. She was graduated in the year 2003 from Fox Lane High School in New York. She then attended the George Washington University for a span of one year and then to Gallatin School of Individualized Study, a New York University where she studied different subjects like international social policy and nonprofits, psychology and completed her graduation in 2010.
