Jean Smart is an American actress. She has starred in many films, TV shows, and has performed as a theatre actress as well. Jean was born in Washington to Kay and Douglas Smart. Smart had graduated from Ballard High School, Seattle. She is an alumna of University of Washington Professional Actors Training Program. Smart had received her BA degree in fine arts. Jean tied the knot with actor Richard Gilliland. They had their first meet on the sets of “Designing Women” Smart built up a strong identity in regional theatre with companies like Hartford Stage Company, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, etc. She then worked in Off-Broadway and professional regional productions. Smart had portrayed Macbeth and Marlene Dietrich (1981). She had the nomination for Drama Desk Award for her superb performance in “Last Summer at Bluefish Cove” in 1981. Jean appeared in other theatre plays like “Fit to be Tied” (1996) and “The Man Who Came to Dinner” (2000). She was nominated for the Tony Award (Best Actress category) for “The Man Who Came to Dinner”. She starred in various other sitcoms like “Teachers Only” (1982), “Maximum Security” (1984), “Reggie” (1983). Smart enacted the feather-brained Charlene Frazier in “Designing Women” (1986).
