Georgia Engel

Georgia Bright Engel was born on July 28, 1948. After finishing college in 1969, Engel became famous after she played Georgette Frankin Baxter in the sitcom movie The Mary Tyler Moore Show which aired from 1972 to 1977 and Pat McDougall on Everybody Loves Raymond Everybody loves Raymond is an American sitcom broa >> Read More... aired from 2003 to 2005. Georgia, a veteran American actress was nominated five times for Primetime Emmy Awards and a BAFTA award.

Georgia earned her primary education at the Kodiak Island Borough School District, and her secondary education at Walter Johnson High School. At the Academy of the Washington Ballet, Georgia earned her theater degree from the University of Hawaii. After earning her theatre degree in college, it was in a musical production with American Light Opera that Engel began her career. In 1969, she moved to New York City, appearing off-Broadway in Lend an Ear, and in 1969 as Minnie Fay in the Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! Engel portrayed the character Georgette on The Myler Tyler Moore Show from 1972 until 1977. 

Engel starred as the voice of Love-a-Lot Bear in The Care Bears Movie (1985). In 2007, the famous American actress played a good witch in the recurring role of Esmeralda on the now-defunct NBC soap opera known as Passion. In 2003, 2004, and 2005, Engel received consecutive Emmy Award nominations as an outstanding guest actress for her role as Robert Barone’s mother-in-law in a Comedy series titled Everybody Loves Raymond.

Besides that, Engel featured in movies such as: Taking Away (1971), playing Margot, a performance that earned her a BAFTA nomination, The Outside Man (1973), Papa was a Preacher (1987), Signs of Saviour (1989), The Sweet Thing (2002), The Day Click to look into! >> Read More... the Women Got Even (1980) and The Love Affair: The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig Story (1978). Engel performed in the following animated films Open Season (2006), Open Season 2(2008), Open Season 3 (2010), and Dr. Dolittle (2001).

Engel returned to Broadway in 2006 to perform in the Musical The Drowsy Chaperone, with Sultan Forster and Edward Hibbert. For five successive summers, Engels in Show Boat in August 2010 as Parthy, in Mame as Agnes Gooch, she appeared in Oklahoma! as Aunt Eller, and in 2009, she appeared as Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man. Engel passed away at the age of 71 on April 12, 2019
